One of my families favorite past time is to look at photos. And going back to my own Maternity photos I always have stories after stories to go with the images: that moment in time, my expectations, the preparation… so much come to mind. The kids love hearing the stories of a period they were with us but weren’t at the same time, and it helps them finish a puzzle of that magical time.
We know pregnancy doesn’t happen to everyone and in my opinion if you are one of the lucky ones you should cherish and document it.
My maternity photo shoots are done on location or at home for when you want a more intimate environment when mom is between 30-32 weeks. Of course that is on average, but I’ve done sessions before and after that mark. If we can help it, I wouldn’t wait to take photos much later than 32 weeks though: a few times the mom couldn’t even get their photos done because the baby was early, or they were put in bed rest during the final weeks, or they would just be too tired or swollen to go on a shoot. That it why I say that on average, between weeks 30-32 mom already has a good, round belly that will photograph so well and enough energy to do so before the final stretch.
