2023 Wildflowers Sessions

How to book your Wildflower Session with All Colors Photography.

The wildflower bloom in Southern California is a beautiful and unique event that only happens for a short period of time each year. If you’re interested in capturing this stunning natural display through professional photography, it’s important to book your wildflower session as soon as possible.

Wildflowers typically bloom in the spring months, and the exact timing and duration of the bloom can vary from year to year depending on weather and other factors. Therefore, it’s important to keep an eye on the bloom forecasts and work with me when choosing the best time and location for your photos. I am familiar with the area and can advise you on the best locations and timing for your shoot.

When booking your wildflower photo shoot, be sure to communicate your vision and preferences, such as the type of setting, color scheme, and style you’re looking for. I can also provide guidance on what to wear and how to prepare for the shoot.

By booking early and working with a professional photographer who knows the area like me, you can capture stunning and unique photos that showcase the beauty of the wildflower bloom in San Diego.

This year I’ve decided to only book full sessions and here is why: most fields offer no shade at all and as you probably know, the sun light is very harsh earlier in the afternoon. With no shade, we can only rely on the time of the day when the sun is really low so we get the beautiful, dreamy light of the Golden Hour. Sunrise is another great option for photos in open fields. We want the sun to be close to the horizon so we can take advantage of a flattering light. When the sun is high we get harsh shadows on our faces and bodies, we squint a lot and the saturation is just not realistic. Believe me when I tell you sunset and sunrise are the best time for a great Wildflower Session.

Why I don’t photograph at the Carlsbad Flower Field

Every year I receive a handful enquiries requesting the Carlsbad Flower Fields and I will explain why I don’t photograph there.
> Their photography fee is really high. As per their website: “Photo/video shoots in this category* will be charged a location fee of $500 per session, to be paid in advance by credit or debit card, or by personal check payable to CB Ranch Enterprises. This fee covers up to 2 hours of shooting and 5 people for entrance to The Flower FieldsĀ®, including the photographer and any support staff. Any additional people will be charged the general rate per person.” By “this category” they mean: Personal shoots include, but are not limited to, portraits, family, engagement, wedding, maternity, graduation etc.
> The client is in charge of paying for the location fee
> They remain open to the public during the shoot, which means crowds of people while we are trying to take photos
> Their photography hours are 9am-11am and 4pm-6pm, and, as you know, these are very bad light hours on an open field like theirs
> They have tapes all around the fields so people don’t get close to the flowers, which is totally understandable since they sell those flowers
> We are not allowed to go into the fields, we need to stay outside the tapes like everybody else.

These are the main reasons why a photoshoot at a wildflower field is my favorite. We take care of flowers and try to be respectful of the environment, but we have full access to the field, choose the best possible hours to shoot and they are free!
