San Diego Photography Tip: Feet
On our posing tips, here is the second subject. San Diego Photography Tip: Feet
Every month I will be talking about little things that can make a big difference during a photoshoot. This month we are talking about feet. I just couldn’t resist the picture above: show them toes!!!
There is not too much to talk about it, but over the years I have shared some information here and there and I will now try to have them here so you can refer back when your session is coming up.
Beach Sessions: No need to wear shoes. Personally I even leave my shoes in the car because I don’t want to carry my sandals around, but if you do want to bring them so you don’t have to walk barefoot, just choose something comfortable to walk on the sand. As soon as we start the photos just leave them on side. Since you will be barefoot for the photos, make sure your pedicure is up to date, or at lease your nails are trimmed and there are not chipped nail polish.
Newborn Studio Sessions: Your feet will not be shown on family photos, so no need to worry about shoes. When I do photos of siblings with the newborn baby, I always prefer that they are barefoot. Specially when they are sitting down, we don’t want to see the bottom of their shoes. Just make sure they are clean. Wipes to the rescue!
The same applies for lifestyle sessions at home, no shoes is the way to go. Easy peasy.
Trail Sessions: if there is walking involved and you are planning on wearing heals, bring your heals in a bag and wear comfortable shoes. When we start shooting you can change and be ready for the photos.
Maternity Sessions: I always prefer long dresses that cover your feet, so when you are picking your dress, keep this in mind: what kind of shoes/heals will I be able to pull off so they don’t show in the photos?
Kids/Family photos: please try to avoid neon color shoes/sneakers. Rarely they will look good in photos, they will only draw unwanted attention. As a matter of fact, I would try to avoid sneakers altogether.
If your child is in between sizes for shoes, I’d rather have a little bigger size than small. Small shoes might hurt, create blisters, and the kids will get super cranky with big chances of tears. We want to avoid that as much as possible.
For babies who are not walking yet, I would recommend no shoes. We all love baby toes, and they look so much better than the bottom of shoes.
